Hydroxycut Recall - Kidney and liver failure, cardiovascular disorders and even death cause Hydroxycut Weight Loss products to be Recalled

The United States has a collective weight problem, and millions of people are trying to cut the extra pounds so that they can live happier and healthier lives. However, some people are unable to follow an exercise routine for one reason or another and others are simply looking for a fast way to lose weight, and this often leads to the decision to look for products to help them.

That’s one of the reasons that weight loss dietary aids have become so prevalent in today’s world. While some of them may offer some help, others have proven to be extremely dangerous. It appears, based on recent news reports and statements, that another line of products has been added to the list of those that people should be wary of before using.

Hydroxycut Recalled Products

This product line is labeled as Hydroxycut products by Iovate Health Sciences, Inc. These products, sold mostly in pill form, are marketed as aids for weight-loss, as fat burners, as energy-enhancers, as low carb diet aids, and for water loss, all of which most believe will lead to better health and a longer life.

The Problems

The product line is coming under scrutiny because of increasing reports – 23 in number as of this writing – of serious side effects developing in those who have used Hydroxycut products. Specifically, and most seriously, people have been harmed by way of liver problems. These liver problems include everything from jaundice to raised levels of enzymes in the liver that can lead to organ failure and the need for a transplant. One person has already died after using Hydroxycut in this manner. Other side effects include:

  • Seizures
  • Cardiovascular disorders
  • Rhabdomyolysis – A type of muscle damage that can lead to other serious health problems such as kidney failure.

Perhaps most serious is the trend that points towards different forms of liver damage. These different forms of damage include jaundice and elevated liver enzymes, which can lead to the immediate need for a liver transplant.

At this point, at least 23 reports of serious side effects developing as a result of using these products and one death has been reported. Given the small sample pool and the relatively short amount of time in which they have been generated, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has decided to act now.

FDA’s Response

The FDA has recently issued a public warning to all consumers that they should immediately stop using any of these products until additional investigations can be completed regarding Hydroxycut weight loss products. This investigation centers on the ingredients present in the products and other factors included with their usage.
